One of the most vibrant and colorful cities in the US, San Francisco, is the perfect city to visit with its welcoming spring weather. San Francisco’s makes for a great choice because of its versatility of activities and budget. Be warned that California tends to be more expensive to travel to.
So what should you do there? Of course, visit the iconic colorful Victorian houses at Alamo State Park and the Golden Gate Bridge. If you’re a history buff, you can check out the eerie Alcatraz tour that teaches you all about the prison’s history.

#3 Oahu, Hawaii

Vacation type: Solo or couple
Budget: Low
Attractions and activities: Surfing, beach, hiking
Kick back and relax on the beaches of Hawaii! Heading on a spring break trip to the beach can be a great solo trip for those looking for some R&R.
Let’s be honest, Oahu is beautiful all year round, but through the months of February to May, it’s particularly stunning. This time is known as the “shoulder season”, meaning the heavy rains are over, but the tourist season hasn’t begun yet.
In Oahu, you can be as active or lazy as you want! If you’re a gym goer, head to the beach and take some surfing lessons. There are also beautiful hikes through the rainforests. If you’re like me, you’d find a good spot on the beach and laze around until the sun sets over the sea.
#4 Disneyland, California
Scenery: Amusement park
Vacation type: Family
Budget: High
Attractions and activities: Amusement park rides, the Food and Wine Festival, live music, wineries, breweries
The happiest place on Earth, Disneyland, is an amazing spring break destination for families. With endless activities, the family can make memories that’ll last a lifetime!
Once you’ve been on all the rides you want, the park also offers live performances and Disney entertainment for kids. The food can be pricey, but it’s definitely delicious!
Although Disneyland is an epic trip for any time of the year, the weather is perfect in spring to walk around the massive amusement park without slapping on so much sunscreen. Also, around spring time there’s the Food and Wine Festival, so the parents can be happy as well as the kids!
#5 Columbia River Gorge, Oregon
Scenery: Forest and lakes
Vacation type: Couple
Budget: Medium
Attractions and activities: Swimming, canoeing, rock climbing, hiking, fishing
The Columbia River Gorge stretches for over eighty miles as the river winds through the Cascade Range. As the snow melts, the scenery of wildflowers blooming as everything comes out of hibernation is gorgeous!
It’s also home to Oregon’s tallest waterfall, Multnomah Falls. Standing at 620 feet, it’s really quite a sight to see. But, if you feel like heading away for the water, you can take a drive and follow the Hood River Fruit Loop. In spring, all the apple and pear trees bloom, and the hills look like they’re covered in a blanket of pink.
Not only can you stare at beautiful vistas and waterfalls, but the area is also known for its top-quality microbreweries and wineries. Sip on some local beers and take a romantic cruise on the Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler.
#6 Las Vegas, Nevada
Scenery: City
Vacation type: Friends
Budget: Medium
Attractions and activities: Nightlife, gambling, live performances
It’s Vegas, baby, a plethora for the senses. If you’re looking for a city where you’ll never get bored, Vegas is the place to go for your spring break trip.
From world-class dining to incredible shows, Las Vegas will have you entertained every minute of your spring vacation. Head to the Strip and take in all the lights and the sights of what a crazy Vegas night has to offer.
Of course, casinos are one of Las Vegas’s main attractions, and during the springtime, they often have better deals and packages. If you’re not much of a gambler, there are plenty of other things to explore. The Fremont Street Experience and Bellagio Fountain are at the top of tourist lists.
If you need a break from the city lights, you can drive or take a tour to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area to rock climb or just explore the canyons.
I’d recommend staying in one of the main resorts and hotels, as you simply get a lot more amenities and activities included. And remember, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!
