If northern Italy is not your only stop, then you should also take a look at our blog article Italy: The Ultimate Travel Guide. Now, without further ado… let’s get started!
Menaggio
This pretty little town will make you feel like the main character. The streets are filled with flowers, cute cafes and restaurants with delicious food! Wander around the main square and get yourself some ice cream at La Fabrica del Gelato. Keep walking around the area you will find the store Lavanda del Lago, a small lavender lover’s paradise! If you’re there around lunch time and are craving some good Italian food, go to La Trattoria Costantin, a lovely family-owned restaurant with delicious pizzas.
Villa del Balbianello
Calling all Star Wars fans! Some of the iconic scenes featuring Anakin and Padme took place in Villa del Balbianello. This magical filming location was also the home the Italian explorer Guido Monzino. We recommend you plan your visit ahead, as they’re not open every day of the week. Plan your arrival around 9:30 am if you want to avoid the crowds. We suggest 9:30 because to get to this gorgeous location by foot, you have to do a 25 minute hike. If you’re planning to arrive by boat, then 10am is the official opening time. Once you’re there, get ready to be mesmerised by the beauty of the gardens and stunning lake views!
Villa Carlotta
Villa Carlotta is huge, with 70000 square metres between stunning gardens and museums, you will enjoy getting lost here! Also, get your cameras ready for the most beautiful photos in this location. Once you’re done exploring around, you can have a refreshing drink or food at the main house’s restobar.
Bellagio
This beautiful town is the most famous in Lake Como, (meaning it’s also the most touristy) so we highly suggest you to avoid getting there with car and take a boat or train instead! Its narrow cute alleys and stony streets will get you in the perfect exploring mood once you arrive. It’s a very small town, so don’t be afraid to wander around you’ll eventually find your way back to your starting point.
Varenna
Varenna is very close to Bellagio and it is recommended to take a ferry there (and get your cameras ready for the view as you approach land!) Once you’re there, walk along the promenade which will lead you to to the rest of the town and its delicious restaurants, cafes and activities!
