Find Your Best Angle
One of the main things to focus on when trying to perfect your selfie game is to figure out which angle works best with your face.
For the self-proclaimed selfie queen Kim Kardashian, this means chin down and camera up. But for you, it might be something completely different.
Take a good hard look at your face in the mirror (or phone screen) and figure out what parts of your face are weaker than others when it comes to photographs, as well as which parts are worth accentuating.
When you take a selfie, try to angle your face in a way that hides any insecurities and flaunts any points of confidence. Just make sure you look natural doing it — you don’t want to look odd by using an obviously uncomfortable pose.

Don’t Over-Pose
There are many times that a selfie has been ruined because, out of self-consciousness, we try too hard to make it a good picture. Duck faces, peace signs, and silly faces are all a sign of this self-consciousness — and while they’re okay every once in a while, they shouldn’t be your go-to poses for every picture.
If you find yourself feeling self-conscious before you take a selfie and feel the sudden urge to find solace in a go-to pose, walk away for a moment. Relax, and try not to think too hard about the photo you’re taking. If you want, you can even come back to the camera and snap a photo quickly to get a very natural photo.
Sometimes the more natural photos, where we are completely relaxed and confident, are the best selfies because we don’t have a chance to overthink our poses. Mix it up and try more natural pictures in between rehearsed poses.

Don’t Forget the Rest of Your Body
When we think of selfies, most of us immediately think of our face and only our face. But there also are selfies that you take in the mirror and, with the advent of the selfie stick, selfies that contain a lot more of us than just our face. Because the rest of our bodies can find their way into our selfies, it’s important not to focus entirely on the face. In most cases, it’s best to just relax — but many of us can be self-conscious about our bodies in some way, so finding ways to pose to hide our insecurities can go a long way in boosting our selfie confidence.
If you tend to slump, try shrugging your shoulders up just a bit and straightening your back. This will improve your posture and may also have the effect of making you look thinner by stretching your midsection and making your collar bone stand out more. If you’re self conscious about a little extra in your tummy area, try putting a hand high on your waist to cinch that area in and give the illusion that you’re a bit thinner.
If you’re a bit on the thin side and want to create the illusion of curves, or if you’re curvy and want to show off your curves, simply popping your knee up or even crossing your legs a bit can do wonders.
Above all, though, just have fun with it. Selfies aren’t meant to be a serious thing, so relax, find what makes you comfortable in front of the camera, and go with it.
