The average wedding now costs, staggeringly, over $35,000. Between flowers, food for guests, venues, and of course, the all-important dress, brides and grooms alike are feeling the pressure to create a “special day” that’s bigger and better than all of the weddings they’ve previously attended.
One place that you don’t have to feel the pressure to compete — and don’t have to spend the average of $750 when it comes to cost? Your wedding invitations. Creating postcard invitations featuring special photos of you and your loved one will help to remind people that, in spite of the world’s wedding fever and the rise of the bridezilla, the day is really a celebration of the love you two share.
So, what does it take to design the perfect postcard invitations for your big day, no matter where it is?
Read on to find out.
Postcard Invitations Step #1
Start Gathering Inspiration For Your Postcard Invitations
We know that, when you’re shopping for your wedding dress, you likely won’t go to the bridal store without at least some idea of what you want.
The same goes for when it’s time to design the postcard invitations for your wedding.
Take a look at all the different template options you have to choose from. Think about how the designs will fit in with the overall colors and theme of your wedding. For example, if you’re having a beach wedding, then a design like this is the perfect way to set the tone for the day.
If you’re getting married in a beautiful local garden, then perhaps a template like this elegant pink floral option will better suit your needs. (Keep in mind that you can use these postcard invitations for both your save the date and the actual invitation to your wedding.)
Additionally, you may want to take a look at some celebrity wedding invitations, which often include photos of the (ridiculously good-looking) couple.
Look at how the photos are arranged, whether or not they include more than one, or if they’ve used black-and-white or colorful options.
Once you’ve decided on the overall design scheme for your postcard invitations, it’s time to start thinking about the photos that you’re going to choose.
Postcard Invitations Step #2
Pick Out Of Your Favorite Photos
Now that you’ve chosen your dream template, it’s time to decide on which photos you want to include on your postcard invitations.
You may want to choose a picture of the actual proposal, or you may want to select a series of photos that highlight a favorite hobby that the two of you share, like traveling, visiting museums, or more.
You might also choose to have a special, themed photo shoot done to completely surprise your guests when they receive their invitations in the mail.
While it’s always nice to choose some of your favorite pictures off of social media, it’s nice to be able to show yourselves in a picture that hasn’t been “liked” already by everyone on your guest list.
Be as goofy, as glamorous, and most of all, as uniquely you, as you want.
Just make sure that the size of the photo is large enough to where you and your future partner’s faces look as clear and bright as you’d like them to.
One of the best things about working with My Postcard when it comes time to design your invitations?
No matter the current size, resolution, or format of your pictures, we can adapt it for you once you upload it to our app. You can even send in pictures from your Instagram and other social media accounts!
Postcard Invitations Step #3
Select The Text And Your Font
In all the excitement of creating the perfect design for your postcard invitations, be sure that you include all of the important details on your invitation!
Make sure that you include the date, time, and of course, the location of your wedding.
You should also include a way for guests to RSVP, as well as a link to your wedding registry if you have one.
Don’t forget to write a little note about the required attire, as well as the date you need your guests’ response by.
If you use our services, you’ll have about 450 characters to write your message — plenty of room to cover the basics and some more.
Depending on the time you have, your budget, and the number of guests you’ve decided to invite, you may want to handwrite your invitations.
However, if your penmanship isn’t exactly the greatest, then you can have the text you’ve chosen printed on your invitations professionally. This way, no one will accidentally read the address incorrectly and show up at the wrong venue!
If you’d like to lend an extra touch of elegance to your invitations or save the date, you can choose to have a professional calligrapher address your envelopes for you.
No matter which kind of font and text color you choose, be sure to keep things as legible as possible. You may want to consider ordering a few test trial cards, to ensure that everything looks exactly as you want it to.
Postcard Invitations Step #4
Download The My Postcard App
So, you’ve chosen your photos, selected your font and colors, and now, you’re ready to actually start creating your stunning invitations.
So, what should you do next?
The first thing you need to do is to download our free My Postcard app. You can do this in either the Apple App Store or the Google Play shop for your Android device.
Our app is incredibly intuitive and easy to use, in order to keep your experience as seamless and stress-free as possible.
All you need to do is browse through our templates, select the best option for you, and upload your photos. Depending on the type of card you choose, you’ll likely want to take a few minutes to play with the size and positioning of the photos.
Next, you can use your mobile device to write your text on your invitation. Usually, especially for wedding invitations which require more text, this will be done on the back side of your postcard.
After that, you’re nearly done!
All you need to do now is to select who and where you’d like to mail your invitations to. So be sure to get your list of addresses in order before you begin the design process (though of course, you’ll be able to save your template to come back to later on if needed.)
Finally, you’ll proceed to the payment portal.
Everything about creating the postcard starts at $1.99 and will increase in price depending on design, shipping destination, and a few other factors.
We accept many forms of payment, and with over 1 million app downloads to date, we think it’s safe to say we’ve made many couples very happy.
Postcard Invitations Step #5
“Mail Out” Your Beautiful Postcard Invitations
Now that you’ve created your invitations, it’s time to mail them out, right?
Not if you use the My Postcard app!
Why run the risk of having your invitations lost in the mail or having to make several trips to the post office to buy more stamps?
We aim to make it easier for you, so we mail out your invitations ourselves.
To make sure you’ll be able to breathe easy and track your invitations, we’ll also send you out a confirmation once you’ve placed your order.
So, how long will it take for your postcard invitations to arrive at their destination? That depends on where your guests are located.
If you’re based in the USA, you can expect your invitations to arrive within 3-5 business days after you’ve ordered them. If you’re in Germany, the invitations can be completed in as little as 1-2 business days.
If you have guests in the UK, they’ll get their invites in 2-5 business days.
Finally…Enjoy Your Big Day!
Above all, remember to relax, smile, and focus on the love of your life.
Once your postcard invitations are in the mail, we suggest getting a “wedding countdown” to help you to build your excitement and to keep track of everything else you need to get done.
Looking for the perfect gift to get your bridesmaids? Know that you’re going to be struggling to complete all of your “thank you” notes after your honeymoon has ended?
Add a gift card to My Postcard to a wedding registry, or slip a gift certificate into the inboxes or gift bags of your bridal party. And when you have another exciting announcement to share, perhaps about a new arrival to your family, we hope you remember us and let us help you to craft the perfect baby announcement!
