Where and when is Father’s Day?

Father’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world, but it is not always on the same day. In fact, the date varies between countries, although it is usually in March, May and June. In contrast, in Thailand, they celebrate it on the king’s birthday, 5th December, and in Brazil, they honour their dads on the second Sunday in August. Whereas in many European countries Father’s Day is celebrated on 19th March, the feast day for St. Joseph. Jesus’ dad and the patron saint of all fathers. However, many countries, including Canada, the UK and the USA celebrate dads on the third Sunday in June.

5 Ways to Treat Dad this Father’s Day

Dad hold two kids in a field

As well as sentimental Father’s Day messages, there are so many ways that you can surprise and delight your dad or stepdad on his special day. Some of our favourite ways to treat him include:

Make him a card

Let your dad know your care with a special, homemade card! Express your creativity and let your imagination run wild. If you prefer not to rely on your artistic abilities (or lack thereof) you could always order a card that features a photograph of you and him. Skip below to our quotes to discover what to write in Father’s Day cards.

Cook a family meal

Most dads or dad-figures just want to spend father’s day with their kids! Sitting down for a family meal provides the perfect opportunity for everyone to get together and have a good time. And if you cook it, it’ll be especially appreciated!

Buy him a gift

It can be difficult to choose the perfect gift for dads. But personalised gifts like photo mugs and calendars have grown increasing in popularity in recent years. Other traditional Father’s Day gifts include beer, neckties, chocolates, and cufflinks. Etsy is a great place to support independent artists and get something unique!

Do something fun together

This is perhaps what all dads want the most. Whether it is just watching TV, going out and about or playing a game, let your father choose an activity for the entire family. For example, in South Africa, it is common for families to all go fishing together!

Get in touch

Unfortunately, we are not all lucky enough to spend father’s day with our dads. If this is the case, organise a video call or just give him a ring on the telephone.

When to send your Father’s Day card

When you send your father’s day card will depend on where you live, with postal times often varying in different countries. For example,

The USA

In the USA, posting usually takes around 8 working days if you are not posting first class. Father’s Day in the States is on the third Thursday in June. So next Father’s Day would be 20th June 2021. We would suggest you try to post your card before the 10th to ensure that it arrives on time.

The UK

In the UK post takes 2-3 working days for second class and 1-2 for first class. With it being Sunday, you will want to aim for your Dad to receive it on the Saturday at the latest.

Canada

In Canada, the post usually takes around 4 working days, but this can depend on where you are sending your card too. Try getting it posted the week before to ensure prompt delivery.

Australia

Also in Australia, the time to post your card usually depends on where your letter is coming from and where it is going. On average, it takes around 5-7 working days!
