Commonly referred to as the hidden beach, this beach is located in the Marieta islands west of Puerto Vallata in Mexico. Of all beaches, this one stands out not only because of the blue water or the soft sand but mainly because of the mainly because of its large cavern. I know, sounds like a fantasy but it is real. The islands are formed by underwater volcanic activities but this is not what formed this beach. It is rumored that in the early 1900s the Mexican government tested weapons and artillery on the Marieta islands which were not inhabited at that time and was a safe distance from civilians. It was later that a scientist, Jacques Cousteau, protested about the harmful destruction of the island. In 2005 the island was named a national park and although the military tests damaged the flora and fauna, many years of peace has replenished the island’s marine life. It is odd how such an extraordinary feature originated from destructive means isn’t it? The island boasts of activities like swimming, kayaking, sunbathing and diving as its main recreational activities. It is not visible on the outside and is accessible through a water tunnel linking it to the Pacific Ocean. The island is accessible by boat rides using tour companies. However, wristbands to the beach are limited and have to be booked prior. So get your ticket to Mexico and spend a day at the world’s only secret beach.
