Mindfulness started out as a trend over the past years and we are sure that it is here to stay. The practice can help reduce stress, improve concentration, improve your morning routine, and it promotes positive relationships inside the household. There are endless books and digital resources to learn more about mindfulness in case we already sparked your interest. For the purpose of this article, we will be focusing on how to create a space of our own that will make us feel good, relaxed and enjoy our day-to-day as much as possible. Let’s get started!

Identifying the space’s purpose

Start off by deciding how you see yourself using this space and setting your intention for that area. For example, if you want to use this space to practice yoga in the mornings, you may want to chose your garden or a spot in your living room that best allows the sun to touch your skin around 7am. Or if you want to journal and meditate, maybe a bunch of pillows and blankets on a room corner will do it for you! Once the intention is set, it’s time to find the ideal room or corner at home that will become the ideal mindful space.

Finding your ideal space

This can be any spare rooms you have, quiet corners in your house, small patios, garden spaces etc. Make sure you remember your intention and what you’ll be using this space for. Your activities need to make sense with the area of your choosing. If possible, try to be near natural light and nature.

Decluttering and getting the space ready

Before you get started with any decoration or moving furniture around, we highly suggest you to deep-clean your entire designated area. Put everything that was already there away and start fresh for the best results. Extra tip: cleanse around the room or area with some incense, this way any previous accumulated and unnecessary energy will go away.

Creating your mindful nook

Once you’ve done these first crucial steps and your space is clean, you are ready to begin creating your mindful nook!

#1 Decorate with inspiring wall art

Think about some quotes or phrases that make you feel good and relaxed. Or maybe, you have a favourite photo of your partner, children, family etc. If you’re feeling extra creative, you could even design a gallery wall in your mindful nook that showcases beautiful memories with your loved ones and positive feelings.

#2 Add a touch of nature

Adding plants to any home space has so many benefits for our overall health and happiness. It is scientifically proven that plants improve air quality, reduce stress, boost your mood and concentration etc.

#3 Curate the vibe and smells

What we mean by this is candles, incense, essential oil diffusers, flowers, anything that will add a nice aroma to your space! We recommend scents like lavender, cedar wood, sage, jasmine and chamomile.
